The Union of Santa Fe will play from Wednesday for the third time in its history the Copa Sudamericana when it hosts on the first day of Group H the experienced Junior from Barranquilla, runner-up of the tournament in 2018 and semifinalist of the 1994 Libertadores.
In 2019, the Union played for the first time in the Copa Sudamericana, but fell in the first phase to the Ecuadorian Independiente del Valle. In 2020 he played it again and was eliminated in the round of 16 by the Brazilian Bahia.
The Barranquilla Junior, on the other hand, has 17 appearances in the Libertadores, eight in the South American and one in the Conmebo l Cup.
In the Argentine Professional Football League Cup, the Union is sixth with 14 points and with six rounds to go is outside the qualifying zone for the quarterfinals only because of the goal difference. The Santafesinos accumulate four wins, two draws and two defeats.
The Junior is fifth in the Colombian tournament with 22 points, eight less than the leader Atlético Nacional. With six dates left until the end of the first phase, the Junior has two points more than Envigado, the eighth and last place.
Last Saturday, the Rojiblancos won the Alianza Petrolera 3-1 to reach seven wins, one draw and six losses in 14 games. That victory allowed Junior to cut a three-match streak without wins.
Union coach Gustavo Munúa will have difficulty putting together the starting lineup because Mauro Luna Diale is suspended and Jonatan Álvez, striker who passed through the Barranquilla team, and Leonardo Ramos have physical problems.
Unión and Junior from Barranquilla will meet this Wednesday at 5:15pm, Colombian time, at the 15 de Abril stadium, located in the central province of Santa Fe.
The other two members of Group H are the Brazilian Fluminense and the Bolivian Oriente Petrolero.

Fabio Poveda, journalist from Blu Radio's 'Sports Blog', spoke about the two great outings of the barranquilla team in the next transfer market. Everything seems to indicate that defender Germán Mera, who was one of the key players in the previous championships, could leave the team, along with him, would also be the name of Fabián Sambueza, since the Argentine, although he returned from Independiente Santa Fe at a great level, could not maintain that level in Barranquilla.
These two big names would be joined by two players who earlier this year were presented as two of the biggest signings of the season, striker Fernando Uribe and steering wheel Daniel Giraldo. The two players came to the team after being great figures in Millonarios, however, in Junior they have not been able to consolidate themselves within the starting squad and were losing prominence as the weeks went by.
