América Hoy was not broadcast on 5 April due to the curfew declared by the President Pedro Castillo, who was later suspended due to the demonstrations that continued to take place in the capital. However, this Wednesday 6th, at 9:30 a.m., the América TV magazine aired normally to give information about protests that took place against the Government in the Center Historic Lima.
The host Brunella Horna took advantage of the cameras to give her testimony of what happened, as she was the only one of the three presenters to march to San Martín Square to ask for the president's resignation. According to him, the demonstration began peacefully; however, this changed when a second group came to foster disorder.
“Yesterday I was at the march. It all started peacefully, we wanted to say what we really feel, our rights. But everything changed, it became aggressive, there was a lot of violence, vandalism, stones, tear gas bombs. The events that continue to happen to this day were regrettable,” he commented at the start of the program.
After seeing the damage done to the front of the Lima Superior Court of Justice, the blonde driver asserted that the Protestants who started the march were not those who caused disorder in downtown Lima, much less those who looted shops and public entities; but infiltrators who arrived with the purpose of causing disturbance.
“Everything was going well, peacefully until 6 in the afternoon. There they all started saying to leave because a lot of people were coming with stones. There, at 7 pm, the attack on the judiciary began,” Brunella said.
“There were a lot of people with stones. And the people who arrived to march peacefully had to run away,” added the current couple of Richard Acuña. His statements sparked the indignation of his teammates Janet Barboza and Ethel Pozo, who regretted that the situation has gotten out of control.
RICHARD ACUÑA AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT
Brunella Horna's partner reported, through their Instagram account, that they “express total rejection of Castillo's tenure as president. He has already shown that he does not have the capacity to govern.” In addition, he urged the Bank of Alliance for Progress (APP), the party to which he belongs, to demand the resignation of the president.
Her feelings were supported by the young driver, who did not stop refueling Acuña's messages on her platforms. “Is Castillo finished opening schools and playing teacher? The transporters can already focus, that someone turns on the TV, that the country and the economy are falling apart. Pedro Castillo, stop victimizing yourself and get to work for real”, was the post published by Horna.
OVER 20 POLICE OFFICERS INJURED
According to information provided by the Ministry of Health, the result of the demonstrations recorded in the capital was 11 wounded in total. Five of them were civilians and six members of the Peruvian National Police. However, the Ministry of the Interior reported that some 25 personnel of the Special Services Unit (USE) of the PNP were injured by violence that occurred near Abancay Avenue.
“The officers were quickly transferred to the Central Hospital of the PNP Luis N. Saenz located in Jesús María. Doctors reported minor bruises caused by blunt objects such as stones, sticks and bottles,” said Minister Alfonso Chávarry.
