On Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at the daily morning conference, Mexico's constitutional president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) reported that during Tuesday's conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, he was invited to participate in the “Stand Up for Ukraine” campaign that he had this Tuesday convened by the Canadian government to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees, which the president had to refuse.
The reason is a visit he has scheduled to the Marías Islands, Nayarit, since April 8 of this year. However, he said that the foreign minister and head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Marcelo Ebrad, will be representing him at the meeting, which will be in virtual mode.
He assured that the Prime Minister of Canada then asked him for a video in which the president would express Mexico's position on Russia's invasion of Ukraine: “I'm going to record it and I'm going to send it to him with our position that is to condemn the invasion because we have suffered from invasions,” he said.
