After retiring in her first match for the American Open at Indian Wells on March 10, Colombian tennis player María Camila Osorio returned to the women's singles field at the WTA 250 Open in Bogotá, commercially known as the Colsanitas Cup, in its 2022 edition.
Osorio returned to triumph in coffee territory after beating in three sets [7 (7) - 6 (4)], [2-6] and [2-2] the 142nd Swiss tennis player in the WTA ranking, Ylena In-Albon, in the sixteenth of the competition. In-Albon had to abandon the match in the fourth game of the third set due to physical discomfort that prevented him from continuing to play the tournament in the Colombian capital.
The Cucuteña, currently ranked 33rd in the WTA ranking, demonstrated its favoritism in the Colombian championship held at the Central Court of the Country Club of Bogotá to seal its 36th victory in professional tournaments under the women's individual category.
The North Santander athlete needed an hour and five minutes to stay with the first set, recording wonderful plays in which the audience delighted with her technique and drops in the eighth game of the first set:
The first set went to tie-break and before the Colombian celebrated the decisive point to go over in the result, she exhibited a return with her right arm that won the applause of the attendees of the game in the Colombian capital:
One of the best points of the match between Osorio and In-Albon came in the second set, in the 40-40 draw of the fourth game. The local representative resolved with a parallel setback a big point in Bogotá:
Ylena In-Albon reacted in the second set and with just 34 minutes apart she was left with the partial 2-6 in her favor.
Already in the third set of the match, Osorio looked confidently to control the onslaught of his Swiss opponent and within 28 minutes of the game, the European informed the umpire of the game of her decision to no longer continue in the match, thus making her retirement from the competition official, as happened to Maria Camila in her last professional match in the women's singles category on 10 March at the Indian Wells Open against the Bulgarian Aliaksandra Sasnovich. This was the end of the game:
Thus, Osorio Serrano is still alive in the Colombian women's tennis championship and expects a rival after the winner of the duel between Turkey's İpek Öz and Chilean Daniela Seguel. Below is the competition table for the women's individual category:
It should be remembered that Osorio is also competing under the doubles modality in the 2022 Colsanitas Cup and has already made his debut with a triumph with his Brazilian teammate Beatriz Haddad Maia on the afternoon of Monday, April 4. The South Americans defeated in three sets [7 (7) -6 (2)], 2-6 and 10-1 the duo formed by American Ingrid Neel and France's Elixane Lechemia.
Now they will face the pair formed by the Greek Valentini Grammatikopoulou and the Russian Amina Anshba in the quarterfinals this Thursday, April 7 at 10:00 a.m. Colombian time:
The matches of María Camila Osorio and the other participants of the 2022 Colsanitas Cup can be seen through the Star Plus signal and DirecTV Sports Colombia until April 10.
