Luis A. Morales, a former owner of a chain of taco restaurants in the Wisconsin area, was sentenced to spend 14 years behind bars leading a cocaine distribution network with his premises, after establishing ties with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
According to the Department of Justice, the 41-year-old man set up his Mr. Taco and Savor Food & Spirits in the area known as Fox Valley, which encompasses northern Illinois and other western edges of Chicago.
Despite the prosperity of the taqueria, Morales focused his activities on supplying cocaine from Colombia and Mexico, where he established links with the CJNG. At least he committed these crimes from 2014 to December 2020, when he was arrested.
According to the investigations, the microentrepreneur also implicated his employees, after he got out of Illinois, as six other people were charged in this case.
Now he will also have to pay a fine of $150,000, in addition to the $145,000 that was already confiscated. When he is released from prison, in approximately 2034, he must be supervised for 10 more years.
