Since Ingrid Betancourt agreed to meet with Álvaro Uribe to create a pact against corruption for the upcoming presidential elections, she has not ceased to attract the attention of public opinion, especially those who came to team up with her in the Centro Esperanza Coalition, from which she withdrew at fault a few days after the consultations on 13 March.
On April 4, it was Sergio Fajardo who referred to the meeting that will be held by the presidential candidate for the Green Oxygen party and the former president of Colombia. He did so after a meeting with the members of the New Liberalism to receive their support in the May 29 votes.
Although he made it clear that Betancourt can meet with anyone he wants, he refused to let it be with the leader of the party through which Ivan Duque was elected in 2018:
The candidate for President of the Republic also confessed that he believes that Ingrid hurt the Esperanza Center Coalition: “Of course, it's very clear. Today Humberto de la Calle cannot campaign with me because due to a rule due to a legal issue he cannot participate. So it's been harmful, no doubt.”
It is worth remembering that de la Calle, together with Daniel Carvalho, the only congressmen elected with the endorsement of Ingrid's party, three days ago expressed their disagreement with their approaches to Uribism, given that it goes against their convictions.
Despite not being able to count on the support of Humberto de la Calle, Fajardo was optimistic about the campaign he is carrying out. “The comeback is underway: we are going with all the strength of the center. Our teams are already organized throughout the country and we all pedal in unison to move to the second round. Watch for the pace we are going to impose: unstoppable,” he posted on Twitter.
Despite the criticism received for opening the door to a conversation with the leader of the Democratic Center, Ingrit Betancourt wrote on her Twitter account: “It's time to stop hatred and polarization. Tolerance, listening and dialogue are the ways to reconcile ourselves. Former President Uribe invites me to speak; I will do so with the gratitude I have him for the operation Jaque that allowed me to be released and that of 14 other abductees.”
For her, meeting with Uribism, which apparently will bet on Federico Gutiérrez as a candidate for the presidency, does not mean alliing. “The center must come together to convene a major national pact against corruption without ideologies,” he added.
