The capital of the Republic has gone through tense moments after the tragic attack in Ciudad Bolivar that left two children dead. Because of this, Mayor Claudia López and President Iván Duque met in a security council to define the situation in the city.
This resulted in a series of measures focused on preventing crime and the action of terrorists in Bogotá, one of the most discussed was the restriction of the barbecue on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from seven at night to four in the afternoon.
The unrest of motorcyclists caused them to mobilize yesterday against what was stipulated by the mayor, about this Claudia López herself, in a press conference on April 5 she expressed herself, announcing a few exceptions for the restriction of the barbecue but being emphatic in the moments that are taking place in the capital.
“We are at the moment of greatest risk to our lives and our city, crime and terrorism are targeting Bogotá, as has been confirmed to us by the authorities: the MinDefensa, the National Police. The stability of Colombia depends on the stability of Bogotá, that is what all terrorists and criminals in the country know, and that is why attacking our city, attacking our families, even as we have already seen it painfully, attacking our children, is the purpose of criminality and terrorism in this electoral era” , said Lopez.
Regarding the measure of the barbecue, he commented that murders and robberies do not happen in the city on 'skateboards or bicycles' and highlighted that one in ten robberies are committed on motorcycles. He therefore pointed out the importance of wearing their respective reflectives and helmets with a legible plate so that they can be identified.
On the exceptions, he said that motorcyclists carrying people with disabilities, insurers such as the services of chosen drivers and those responsible for public and private security and surveillance will be able to travel without any restrictions, he also stressed that any type of emergency can be exempt but must be properly identified.
López also pointed out that the measures are not taken to affect motorcycle drivers or stigmatize them, but to ensure the safety of the capital. He also added that the National Police was stipulating that motorcycles should be restricted from 6 pm, but the district refused considering the welfare of citizens who use this mode of transport.
Among the other preventive measures taken by citizens is: The parks will operate until 10 at night “parks are not bars”, said the mayor. All commercial establishments operating until the early hours must be linked to a security front and close clubs that benefit from their corporate name to operate as bars or nightclubs.
The mayor of the capital also indicated that after the elections, it should be evaluated how effective the measures implemented to prevent crime and terrorism in Bogotá were, to determine whether they would cease to be temporary or not.
A screenshot of a conversation circulates through social networks in which a group of bikers from the city, called 'Gonobikerreas', allegedly cites a new day of protests in the capital in response to the measures established by Claudia López for motorcyclists in Bogotá.
“Attention. Bogota tomorrow, April 5, 2022 GBR takes to the streets at 5:00 a.m. at the Campín meeting point. The biker group Gonobikerreas (the clown's family) are going to block Bogotá from 6:00 a.m. in various areas of the city,” says the message that went viral on social networks.
Although so far there are no problems with mobility due to demonstrations or biker sittings, the people of Bogota remain waiting because when the morning or afternoon advances, chaos could start in the streets of the capital. According to reports through social networks, motorcyclists who will start the new day of demonstrations have already begun to gather outside the Nemesio Camacho El Campín Stadium.
