Lalo Spain suffered discrimination because of his appearance when he started his career: “Your guy doesn't sell”

Today he is mainly known for his character in “Germán” in Vecinos, but at the beginning of his career he received cruel comments that came to affect him emotionally

Lalo España already has a consolidated career in Mexican comedy, because since he began appearing in projects such as Otro rollo and El hotel de los secretos, the actor from Jalisco has been on the public radar.

With his character “Germán”, from the popular series Vecinos, Spain has positioned himself as one of the most popular actors on Mexican television, given that the TV series produced by Elías Solorio has been on the air for almost 18 years, in addition to having the now classic performance of his character “Doña Márgara Francisca”.

In addition, Lalo España has expanded his talent to other areas within entertainment, which is why he has also ventured into production. Despite the popularity he enjoys today, the actor does not forget his beginnings, when he experienced difficulties finding his first job opportunities in the competitive art world.

Lalo recently said that at the beginning of his career it was not all honey on flakes, since he faced marked discrimination due to his physical appearance, which made it difficult for him to have multiple doors closed to him in the world of acting. Eduardo Ramírez, the comedian's real name, was even the victim of cruel comments that affected his self-esteem.

The actor said that he was forced to leave his hometown, Guadalajara, with the intention of pursuing a career in Mexico City, but during those years he had to deal with manifestations of discrimination on different occasions.

Lalo said that he was told that his physical image is not the one preferred by the public. “The first night I arrived was very strong because I ran into someone who said to me: 'Well, I don't really think so, your guy doesn't sell. I don't think so; if you had a job there, you would have stayed in Guadalajara,” recalled the interpreter for the program Venga la alegría weekend.

This comment, as the actor admitted, “hurt him a lot”. But discrimination and prejudice against him had not only to do with his physical image, but also to the field of comedy, since he was typecast in that genre.

“Suddenly they were like the paradigms or stigmatizations of 'no, you're comic'; that prejudice was created a lot,” he said.

Although it has been several years since Lalo España was the subject of cruel comments, the actor admitted that from time to time he has come to question and criticize his appearance, especially when he has gained weight.

“In the pandemic I ate myself and said 'ay'. I had a hard time getting back on track little by little, apart from that I really like life and God must have made me more handsome or something because I really like the swallow and good wine; if it becomes fashionable to be fat or something, it would be cool,” he said with his characteristic sense of humor.

Recently Eugenio Derbez released some posts on Instagram where he was accompanied by a person, then unknown, characterized as “El chavo del 8″. The version immediately emerged among the public that Lalo España had not finally been considered to participate in the announced bioseries of Chespirito's life, however, it was the actor himself who clarified that he is still in the process of auditions and spoke of Derbez's work, which ultimately turned out to be an advertising campaign next to actor Juan Frese.

“If you are smart, it is analyzed that if my dear Eugenio Derbez, 7 days after launching his campaign, plays something from Chavo del octo... a bioseries is not going to prepare it in 10 days or 15 days,” Lalo said. And he added that “it's not a fact that I stay, but if I stay, how cool. I don't know where scrubbed they got that I'm very hot, let them show me a publication,” he told the cameras of the program Firsthand.

Lalo España, who has made several videos in which he appears characterized as the characters of Roberto Gómez Bolaños in his desire to be considered in the casting of the series, he acknowledged that he cannot get this project out of his head, as it is still in the process of auditions.

“I'm taking a bath and I'm thinking about how I made such a scene where I wanted to play more things. I'm very obsessive in the chamba,” he confessed.
