Carlos Slim is the richest man in Mexico and is also among the top positions of the world's wealthiest businessmen. In 2021, the financial magazine Forbes placed the “telecommunications magnate” in 16th place in the annual Billionaires ranking, which reveals the greatest fortunes internationally, currently headed by Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Bernard Arnault, owner of the luxury conglomerate LVMH, which includes firms such as Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton and Kenzo, among others.

According to information from the financial magazine, the Mexican businessman collected a fortune of USD 53.93 billion, an amount that increased dramatically by 2022, as the net worth of the multinational América Movil owner is currently valued at USD 81.2 billion.

In other words, Slim Helú's wealth increased by USD 25 billion in the last year, an amount that could be similar to the fortune held by Germán Larrea, the second richest man in Mexico, whose net worth is USD 27,110 million.

In this way, the owner of the Grupo Carso conglomerate, ranked among the ten businessmen who made the most profits from 2021 to 2022, along with the American Elon Musk; businessman Chang Peng Zhao, dedicated to the cryptocurrency business, and the magnates Gautam Adani, Rodolfo Saadé, Michael Bloomberg, Steve Ballmer, Wrren Buffett, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Slim Helú was considered one of the big winners of the Billionaires ranking.

According to the US publication, Slim had a 42% increase in the shares of its Latin American telecommunications company América Móvil. In addition, the “telecommunications mogul” sold its 10% stake in The New York Times at the end of 2020, when the shares were trading at more than $40 per share. “I had exercised guarantees to buy those shares in 2015 for more than $6 each,” Forbes said.

It should be noted that, with the profits made in 2022, the Mexican businessman managed to beat the record for his wealth after having been in the annual ranking since 1991. Prior to his wealth of USD 81.2 billion, Slim achieved a net worth of USD 77,100 million in 2015, just two years after becoming the richest man in the world in 2013 and succeeding in outraging computer scientist Bill Gates, who until then was the oldest businessman in the world in 2013 and succeeded in ousting the computer scientist Bill Gates, who until then was the entrepreneur who held the first place on the podium of the wealthiest characters on the planet.

Meanwhile, the two most important drops in the fortunes of the businessman of Lebanese descent occurred in 2016, when his fortune fell sharply from 77.1 billion to 50 billion. After recovering from that economic blow, Slim Helú's next most important loss occurred in 2020, his fortune fell USD 11,900 million, approximately, a situation that caused him to rise from the top ten of the richest men in the world to place himself in the 12th position.

In addition to the Grupo Carso conglomerate and the multinational telecommunications company, which operates in the Central American region, as well as in the countries of Chile, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Argentina, among others, Slim also owns businesses in the energy sector through the company Condumex, which is dedicated to manufacturing conductors electrical, as well as energy transformers, alternating energy, auto parts, tubular steel and precision products, as well as the processing of electrical components.

Another business of the Mexican businessman is the Inbursa Financial Group, which offers banking services in Mexico and was included in Forbes magazine as one of the 2000 most valuable companies in the world. This company is currently chaired by Marco Antonio Slim Domit, son of the “telecommunications magnate”.
