Atletico Madrid by Mexico's Hector Herrera begins their fight to get into the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League. In the first leg of the quarterfinals, the colchoneros visit England to face Manchester City, rival in turn. Although the national team for Mexico will miss the commitment due to injury, his recovery is expected for the second leg, in which he will seek to be in the run-up to the final for the first time in his career.
The midfielder was left out of the Madrid squad for the second consecutive game because he could not overcome the physical discomfort he presented during a training session. Diego Cholo Simeone, however, has announced that it is nothing serious and he hopes to be able to count on him soon. On his visit to Manchester, the Argentine coach said that the team will seek to maintain the style of play and highlighted the quality of players that the opponent possesses.
“Manchester City has extraordinary players. What I like most is the effort they have to recover the ball and to propose in attack. It's a team that's nice to see you play. It is constantly evolving and what I like most is to see players in the category of Sterling or De Bruyne always running and pressing, without losing a ball. The talent that gives you that quota of work is what all coaches want,” he said at a press conference.
In relation to the participation of former Tuzo de Pachuca, since he came to European football he has continued to compete in the elite tournament. In 2013 when he arrived at Porto de Portugal he immediately participated, in what was his first championship with the Dragons, but they were eliminated in the group stage by finishing third with five points. In the six seasons he played with the Lusitanians, he played the tournament in all of them.
Of that total, on two occasions they did not pass the groups, two others were eliminated in the round of 16, while the rest managed to get among the eight best clubs in the old continent. Already with the people of Madrid, Herrera has two editions in which the furthest phase they have reached is the quarterfinals in 2019-2020. That is, the Mexican midfielder has never been able to play in a UEFA Champions League semifinals.
