Eugenio Derbez responded to the controversy about Matamoros: “I'm not that ignorant”

Eugenio Derbez has shown himself to be multifaceted throughout his career, as he has gone from being an actor in comedy shows such as La Familia P.Luche to taking the stage of the 2022 Oscars, due to the fact that the film CODA: signs of the heart, in which he participated and won the category of Best Film.

However, with the increase in his fame, something that has escalated have also been the controversies surrounding the actor. One of the most recent ones happened after the artist of No Returns accepted mentioned in an interview with Ventaneando that his new project would be based on a child prodigy who became famous in Matamoros.

But, after Derbez classified this region of Tamaulipas as “a little town” that had no lighting or paving, criticism rained down on him strongly by users and even entrepreneurs.

It was for this reason, that in a recent meeting with the press during the red carpet of And what is he like? , Eugenio clarified his comment.

“I didn't say that Matamoros was a town, it's a story that happened in a small town in Matamoros. It is as if I say, there is a small town here on the shores of Mexico (...) that's what I meant when I said that in a small town in Matamoros, I'm not so ignorant,” he said.

In addition, Derbez sent a strong message to all those who have criticized him and called his followers “unstable”.

“It's lazy because one day networks hate you and another day they love you and that is laziness, that is, a little bit of stability, they seem bipolar, that is, a joke that crosses your line then they cancel you, and they hate you, and they threaten you, and they lie to you the mother, and after a while they love you again and they love you, and that gives me a little bit of laziness already, me I would like to have fewer followers, but a little more emotionally stable,” he said.

The comedian also took the opportunity to send a message to people who have not supported him throughout his career and who reached him close some doors in their early days.

“I thank you, what made me move from my comfort zone was one, that I am very restless, and two, it's all the people who didn't believe in me or who at one point rejected me, and thanks to those people who somehow rejected me, who didn't give me a chance, thanks to them I dared to move to a place where I am right now,” he said.

As for his current stay in Mexico for the film ¿And what is he like? in which he collaborates with Omar Chaparro and Mauricio Ochmann, Derbez noted that he was very happy to be in his place of origin.

“I am very happy to return to my country, I am very pleased with your affection, in my head it works the opposite of many people who say 'I am already on another level', on the contrary, coming with you, with the people who saw me grow up, with the fans who made me for me is a pleasure, it's like getting to say 'look, this nice happened to me, I want to share it with you and thank you for all this journey that we have traveled together ', I don't know, that's how I see it and I'm still the same person, I still see myself in the mirror as I did three months ago or six years ago,” he said.
