(Bloomberg) The Czech Republic said it will keep classified information about its arms shipments to Ukraine after reports emerged that it is handing over some of its Soviet-era tanks to fight Russian invaders.
The NATO member state will continue to send military equipment to Ukraine, but will not give details for security reasons, Defense Minister Jana Cernochova told lawmakers in Prague on Tuesday.
“The war is raging there and we won't make anything easier for the killers with the letter Z,” he said on Twitter, referring to the badge painted on Russian teams. “Believe me, we are sending essential military material to Ukrainian friends.”
Cernochova responded to reports in the Wall Street Journal and local media by saying that the country sent dozens of T-72 tanks and personnel carriers to Ukraine this week. A legislator from one of the ruling coalition parties, Ondrej Benesik, praised Cernochova for the deliveries.
The Czech Republic quickly approved military aid to Ukraine after it was invaded by Russia, sending machine guns, assault rifles, artillery shells and other ammunition.
