Lima and Callao woke up with a total halt following the curfew decree of President Pedro Castillo, due to the high violence that occurred due to the carriers. Urban transport, Metropolitan and formal taxi services have been suspended and the main roads in the Peruvian capital are guarded by members of the National Police and the Armed Forces.

This extreme measure announced by the Peruvian government around midnight today states that “from 02.00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, compulsory social immobilization is provided for all people in their homes, in the districts of Lima Metropolitan del department of Lima and in the Constitutional Province of Callao”.

“During compulsory social immobilization, strictly necessary personnel involved in the provision of health services, medicines, continuity of water, sanitation, electric power, gas, fuel, telecommunications and related activities, cleaning and collection of solid waste, funeral services, transport of cargo and goods and related activities”.

This curfew is affecting around 10 million people in Lima, as many of them learned about the measure only when they were on their way to their workplaces and to the main whereabouts of the capital.
