Alvaro Hodeg, a Colombian runner who signed for the next two seasons with UAE Team Emirates, has not been able to get back on his bike, after he suffered a traffic accident in December 2021, according to a recent Instagram post.
There he assured that to date he has completed more than 5 surgeries on his body in order to recover in the best way. However, his rehabilitation has been slow, as he barely manages to walk 4 months later.
The winner of Grote Prijs Marcel Kint in 2021 and the Heylen Vastgoed Heistse Pijl 2019, made it clear that he focuses on being able to walk well and then return to riding his bike.
In a photo he uploaded to his social networks a few days ago, the monterian showed himself surrounded by his family while he posed while sitting in a wheelchair.
However, he commented: “Last December I had a major traffic accident that unfortunately damaged my plans and enthusiasm to start the season competing with my new UAE Team Emirates team.”
That of course left the speedster ExQuick Step out of competition at the start of the season, although it is clearly not yet known when he can return to training and therefore to competitions with the UAE Team, in which he will also share with the two-time Tour de France champion, Tadej Pogacar.
Hodeg recently uploaded part of his recovery process to his Instagram statuses, which allows us to see that he is on the right track, as collected by ADN Cycling in this video:
He also left in his states a photo where he hugged the doctor who accompanied him in the recovery process, thanking him emotionally:
“One of my little angels in this process, Mil Gracias Doctor Juan Fernando Posada”
Álvaro is full of hope that he will soon return to the sport that catapulted him to be in the best teams in the world and now together with the two Colombian sprinters Sebastián Molano and Fernando Gaviria with whom he will later share some races as he is part of the same team.
So far the Arab squad has not counted on the Colombian squad so far this season, although according to Hodeg he has received the unconditional support of his new bosses in the face of this difficult situation, it has been the accident he suffered:
Hodeg is another of the Colombians who, due to injury, have not been able to compete again, joined by the super star of the Ineos Grenadiers, Egan Bernal who also crashed in January 2022, Daniel Arroyave of EF Education EasyPost and Fernando Gaviria, also of the UAE Team, who suffered a sharp fall in February during the 77th edition of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in Belgium.
