Alegna González: Who is she and what was her walk to get to the Tokyo Olympics

The 21-year-old marchista fulfilled her biggest dream in the sport: to qualify for the Olympic Games, but she will also give her best effort to be at the top of the podium

Alegna Aryday González, is one of the youngest Mexican athletes who will represent Mexico at the Olympic Games. The runner was born on January 3, 1999, she is originally from Ojinaga, Chihuahua. He moved to Mexico City to fulfill his dream: to train to stand out as a marchista and go to the top sports event.

From a very young age, when she was in second grade of primary school, she began her training in athletics, in a team called “Atléticos, Runners”, which was led by her uncles Guadalupe and Ricardo González Muñoz, who ran in marathons at the state and national levels.

They led their way to the walk and when he was in fourth grade, he participated in a children's Olympiad, representing Ojinaga, in Chihuahua. Year after year since she was an infant she improved her marks.

In 2012, he took second place in the state olympics with a time of 23:25 in the 5km. In the following years 2013 and 2014, he beat his own record with 22:34 min. in 5 kilometers, with that feat he won the regional two consecutive years.

In 2016, she beat Valeria Ortuño's mark with a time of 22:32, in the 5 kilometers and won the national walk. His best marks have been in Taicang, China during the 10 km walk, on May 6, 2018, with a time of 45:08 minutes, as well as on March 20, 2021 in the 20 kilometers, with a time of 1h: 30:08, from Dudince, Slovakia.

The marchista received the National Sports Award in 2018 for her first place in the Under 20 World Cup held in Finland. He has fulfilled the two most important wishes in his career as a high performance athlete: on the one hand, that his name is a reference in the history of Mexican sports and on the other, he managed to rank the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

The young athlete gave the Olympic mark in 2019, after finishing second place in the Czech Republic Walking Meeting. With that feat, she was the first Mexican athlete to meet the requirement for the Tokyo sports fair. In a talk to CONADE, he expressed his excitement for the upcoming Olympics that will begin on July 23:

The year in which everything changed for Alegna's life was 2016, because since then he has had to get away from his family or personal activities, because he was 100% in his training, which has paid off despite the complicated change. She is one of the most prominent young Mexican athletes in athletics. In 2019 she had knee surgery, which took her away for months from competitions, but that was not an impediment, so that she always did her best. He is currently looking to make history at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and climb the podium.
