Jada Pinkett is said not to be “mad” at her husband Will Smith after she slapped comedian Chris Rock for making a joke about her at the Oscars. Everything indicates that the marriage is still intact despite everything, although the recent Oscar winner is already suffering the first consequences of his violent act during the Hollywood Academy ceremony on March 27: he was left without a job and an internal debate arose in his agency about whether or not they should continue to have him as a client.
Will Smith's career changed dramatically after his outburst on the Oscars stage. The actor resigned on Friday from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences because of his behavior at the March 27 ceremony, when he hit Rock in front of millions of spectators.
The heads of Smith's talent agency, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), were divided over what to do with the actor after the incident.
Bryan Lourd, Richard Lovett and Kevin Huvane, who represent countless Hollywood and sports stars, faced an internal debate when their client punched Rock in the face for joking about his wife's baldness, and later won a golden statuette for his role in “King Richard,” reported The Daily Beast.
Three sources who spoke with Lourd told the Daily Beast that he told several people that he didn't want Smith on the CAA list anymore. Meanwhile, Lovett didn't want to lose the 53-year-old actor, whom he personally represents, although he seemed “exhausted” by the whole scandal, internal sources told the publication. Looks like Lovett won and Smith will stay with the agency for now.
However, a CAA spokesman denied the information: “There is nothing true to that. It just never happened.”
But as questions arise about Smith's future, in Hollywood some don't think his 30-year career will be affected by the incident. Speaking on The View on Monday, actress Whoopi Goldberg said: “Some of Will Smith's future projects are in doubt. The question is whether he has a way back, yes, of course he does. He'll be back, don't worry.”
After the harsh criticism, Will Smith resigned on Friday as a member of the Hollywood Academy and again apologized publicly to Chris Rock.
“I resign from being a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and I will accept any other consequences that the Board deems appropriate,” the actor wrote in a statement. “I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I'm heartbroken.”
The institution confirmed the acceptance of Smith's resignation through a statement signed by its president, David Rubin. But, at the same time, he reported that the disciplinary procedure opened against the actor will continue.
It is now unlikely that the star, who won this year's Best Actor award for his portrayal of Richard Williams, father of tennis stars Venus and Serena, in “King Richard”, will be invited to announce the Best Actor award next year, a task performed in recent years by the winners of previous editions.
Smith will not be able to vote for the Oscars or attend special Academy events in the future, but will remain eligible for future Oscar nominations.
“Change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I will never again allow violence to outweigh reason,” Smith concluded.

Despite his apologies and his resignation from the Hollywood Academy, the slap that Will Smith gave Chris Rock at the Oscars is still something to talk about.
The Oscar winner lost two jobs with Netflix and Sony Picture, who are not interested in working with the actor and have put his next projects on hold.
As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, the pre-production of the Netflix action film starring Smith, “Fast and Loose”, was suspended after the violent episode at the Oscar gala. Before the slap, the film's director, David Leitch, left the project, and although the streaming service sought another director to take over the project, Smith's attack on Chris Rock would have caused Netflix to put the project on hold, according to the said media outlet.
For its part, Sony also stopped the film “Bad Boys 4″, for which Smith would have already received 40 pages of script for the next installment of the franchise.
At the moment, Smith's next leading role is the film “Emancipation”, directed by Antoine Fuqua, currently in post-production. The feature film was scheduled to be released on Apple TV+ in 2022, but a release date has not yet been set.
However, the platform already evaluates the possibility of saving the project to see how events unfold for the actor.
