The inhabitants of El Corral beach are shocked, after at dawn this Monday, April 4, a couple of tourists found the lifeless body of a two-year-old boy in that sector, located in the tourist area of Buritaca, in Santa Marta (Magdalena).
In a dialogue with RCN Radio, the director of the Colombian Institute for Family Welfare (ICBF) in Santa Marta, Mario Jacobo Ariza Monsalve, announced that the couple of travelers were walking along the beach when they found the child's body. To the surprise, the two tourists immediately communicated with the authorities.
After responding to the call of the tourists, the police found that the minor no longer had vital signs, so they requested the support of Sijin laboratories to inspect the body and carry out the removal of it.
According to the director of the ICBF of Santa Marta to RCN Radio, until now the Childhood and Adolescence Police do not know the identity of the 2-year-old child, nor do they have any complaints about a minor missing in the city. “Therefore, we are not aware of who the child's parents are,” Ariza Monsalve said.
However, in an interview with Caracol Radio, a resident of the sector assured that, hours before the minor was found dead, the child was seen with two people who, apparently, would be his parents, so, at the moment, the authorities are also looking for these two citizens.
For now, the authorities are trying to find out the identity of the minor, in addition to clarifying the child's death, which, apparently, according to the newspaper El Heraldo, would have been due to suffocation by immersion or drowning.
We must remember that, if that were the case, that would not be the first event reported in Santa Marta so far this year. On the afternoon of last Friday, January 14, a 56-year-old woman died on a beach located in the Mi Ranchito sector, El Rodadero de Santa Marta, after she drowned while delivering at the tourist resort.
As witnesses to the events reported to W Radio, the victim, identified as Luz Mary Holguín Cuervo, entered the sea and, apparently, ended up submerged in an area with holes and high current, which led to her loss of life.
Although a team of first responders managed to help her and transfer her to a health center, the woman failed to survive.
After the fact, the victim's relatives indicated that they would file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office, since they assured that, in the sector, “there are no signs or guarantees for bathers”.
