A girl and her father survived a hit attack in Celaya

The city, which a year ago was considered the most violent in the world, was the scene of a new violent event that almost turned into a tragedy.

Celaya, the city that was considered the most violent in the world a year ago, was the scene of a new violent event that almost turned into a tragedy: a family was attacked when they left a circus in their private car in what would be a hit attack.

What has most shocked about this case is that the victims of the attack were a father and his daughter. Witnesses to the attack claimed to have heard up to six detonations, but fortunately the minor was not hit by any of the bullets. His father was also unharmed.

The facts

It was about eleven o'clock in the evening of Monday, April 4, when the man and his daughter were moving in a black Honda Civic vehicle, which had been parked a few meters from the entrance door of the circus and whose show was not over.

At that access, and in view of other families who had attended the function, a motorcycle in which two armed men were riding approached the vehicle in which the minor was traveling and unloaded their weapons into the bodywork.

At that time panic gripped the people who were near that access. Some witnesses told the police that they had heard up to 6 shots. The circus is located on the Northwest Axis, at the height of the Mexico colony.

The motorcyclists managed to escape before elements of the Municipal Police arrived to cordon off the place, along with Criminal Investigation agents.

The reason for the attack is unknown or was not disclosed by the authorities. The strongest hypothesis pointed out that motorcyclists were probably going for the father of the family. The attack occurred about 150 meters from a police booth.

In recent days, the bodies of two men were found in the community of La Cruz, Celaya, with obvious signs of violence and accompanied by a message written by members of organized crime.

It was presumed that the message was written by members of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel due to the acronym C.S.R.L. found in the message; and according to unofficial information, those executed would be members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

On March 22, a van with seven burned bodies was found south of Celaya, victims who were later identified as members of the musical band The Chuparrecios, originally from the town of Juan Martín, near the capital of Guanajuato.

In April 2021, Celaya led the “2020 Ranking of the 50 Most Violent Cities in the World” with 109.38 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants. In the presentation of the report, the organization warned that 7 of the 10 most violent cities in the world are Mexican: Celaya in first place, Tijuana in second, Ciudad Juarez in third, Ciudad Obregon in fourth, Irapuato in fifth place, Ensenada in sixth and Uruapan in eighth.
