The last car of the Aragon Forest recreational train overturned on Sunday afternoon, April 3, while it was in operation, resulting in two minors and nine adults injured; the authorities of Mexico City have already started the corresponding investigations.

The capital's Secretariat for Integrated Risk Management (SGIRPC) reported on its social networks about the derailment, which occurred around 2pm:

Emergency teams attend to the report of overturning of a little train that operates as an attraction inside the Aragon Forest, on Avenida 510 and Avenida 412, col. San Juan de Aragon IV Section, @TuAlcaldiaGAM,” the agency reported.

The site was attended by emergency personnel from the Gustavo A. Madero Mayor's Office's Emergency and Rescue Squadron (ERUM), as well as SGIRPC personnel, who carried out the pertinent expert reports to determine the causes of the derailment.

According to information provided by Mexican authorities, at least three people were injured that required transportation to a hospital. No serious injuries were reported following the incident.

The heads of the SGRIPC, Myriam Urzúa Venegas, de la Sedema, Marina Robles García, and La Sedesa, Olivia López Arellano personally went to the place to attend to the derailment of the recreational train.

On July 24, 2016, a similar incident occurred in the Aragon Forest, as the train derailed, leaving several injured, so paramedics and volunteers came to care for the people involved in the accident.

After investigations carried out by the capital authorities, it was possible to determine that the incident was due to the softening of earth caused by the summer rains that occurred in the area, since the land near the railway tracks softened and led to the accident.

For days, Mexico City has been under contingency due to bad weather conditions caused by forest fires, since only on Saturday, April 20, 20 accidents were recorded in the Mexican capital.

According to the Secretariat of the Environment (Sedema) of the CDMX, personnel from the Commission on Natural Resources and Rural Development (Corenadr) carried out mitigation and control work in various areas in the south of the city from 11:10 a.m.

Citizens perceived smells of smoke in different parts of the capital, which was also reported by the head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum:

There is a strong smell of smoke in various areas of the City due to forest and grassland fires in the south, as well as in Morelos and the State of Mexico. So far the @CAMegalopolis does not report contingency levels, however we are vigilant and we continue to report,” said the president during the morning of Saturday, April 2.

For its part, the Atmospheric Monitoring System announced that on the same day the fires were recorded, the presence of high levels of polluting particles O3, PM10 and PM2.5 was also warned of; in addition to an index of 136 ozone points, which resulted in the rating of “very poor” for air quality in CDMX and the State of Mexico.
