The controversial Chilean referee, Julio Bascuñán, was fired along with ten judges by Javier Castrilli, president of the ANFP Arbitration Commission. In this way, they will no longer be able to direct in the first division of 'mapocho' football.
According to the information reported by ADN radio, the referees who were removed from their posts are the following: Julio Bascuñán, Cristian Garay, Nicolás Gamboa, Piero Maza, Claudio Urrutia, Felipe Jara, Felipe Jerez, Hector Jona, Franco Arrué, Alejandro Molina and Constanza Salinas.
Former Argentine referee Castrilli made the decision in a tense environment, as the Chilean Professional Football Referees Union (Arbifup) published a statement calling for the removal of the senior officials of the Arbitration Commission. “The urgent departure of Javier Castrilli, Mr. Osvaldo Talamilla and Mr. Braulio Arenas is non-negotiable”, can be read in the text.
They also sent a warning, in the event that their request is not fulfilled, and will begin “the total cessation of activities since Wednesday, April 6”. This statement was published on Thursday, March 31, and so far it has not had a response.
