The coach of the French national team, Didier Deschamps, after the draw of the group stage of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, analysed Group D and considered that the national team will complete the series after playing the repechage.
The Peruvian national team finished fifth in the qualifying rounds and qualified for the World Cup Repechage that will be held in a single match on June 13 in Doha, Qatar.
The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) will face the winner of stage 4 of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Precisely, the first week of June will define their pass to the repechage Australia and the United Arab Emirates and the winner would be the representative of Asia who will clash with Peru for a ticket to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
With 29 qualified teams, the draw was won for the group stage of the World Cup and it was announced that the winner of the South America-Asia repechage will complete Group D, which is made up of France, Denmark and Tunisia.
On the fourth Group D selection that has yet to be confirmed, France coach Didier Deschamps suggested that the Peruvian team has a better chance of reaching the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“Logic would suggest that it is Peru that will qualify, because of its position in the ranking. We will wait, because history also says that not always the best placed is the one who got into the World Cup,” said Didier Deschamps about the Peruvian playoff on the road to Qatar 2022.
The 'Blues' strategist also analyzed Denmark, the team that will face again in Qatar 2022 for the second time in a row in a World Cup after the Russia 2018 World Cup.
“Denmark is clearly the strongest rival in our group. They are semifinalists of the Euro Cup and eleventh in the FIFA ranking. The Danes are ahead of Germany, that proves the quality of this team. There is respect. As always, we will take our opponents with the utmost seriousness in the analysis.”
In addition, Deschamps referred to the fixture of the European Nations League and his next two matches with Denmark before the Qatar World Cup in November, and that they are now part of the same group at the World Cup event.
“I don't know if it's ideal. They (Denmark) will also have the chance to get to know us better, even if the two matches will not be similar,” argued the world champion coach with France in Russia 2018.
