Navy locates camp of alias “Firulais” leader of the Gulf Clan in Chocó

On Saturday, April 2, during a joint operation between units of the Colombian Navy and officials of the Prosecutor's Office, against the Baudó substructure of the Gulf Clan, a camp of alias Firulais, leader of the Gulf Clan, was located, where three were captured alleged members of this criminal group and the seizure of war material, quartermaster, explosives and narcotic substances.

The operation took place in the rural area of the district of Arusí, in the municipality of Nuquí (Chocó). When the camp was detected, an armed confrontation resulted in the neutralization and death of two subjects members of this illegal structure.

In addition, during the inspection of the camp, three long assault rifle weapons, more than 2,200 units of ammunition of different calibers, six improvised explosive devices, quartermaster's equipment such as backpacks and vests, and 86 rectangular packages reportedly containing cocaine hydrochloride were seized. Currently, this military operation continues to bring the members of this criminal organization to justice.

According to information from the Navy, the “Baudó” substructure of the “Gulf Clan” is under the orders of alias Firulais, being the main driver of activities related to the trafficking of cocaine and marijuana in this region of the country.

The captured subjects were placed at the disposal of the competent authorities, as were the war and quartermaster material, the explosives seized and the 86 packages of narcotic substances; the bodies of the two individuals killed in the course of military operations were transferred to the city of Quibdó (Chocó) and placed in provision of legal medicine.

It is worth remembering that, on March 29, the Prosecutor's Office confirmed the capture of Juan Camilo Molina Medina, also known as alias' Camilo ', who, after various follow-ups, was intercepted by the authorities in a hotel in an important sector of the central-western part of the city of Medellín.

Molina Medina is for extradition purposes, as the Eastern District Court of Texas in the United States, has made the request in the midst of its fight against drug trafficking across the continent.

Medina is part of the so-called 'invisible narco', a qualifier attributed to the group of criminals with little presence in this organization. His capture was achieved thanks to joint work with the Dijin and the National Police, through the support of the Specialized Directorate against Criminal Organizations of the Attorney General's Office.

During 2021 and so far in 2022, the Colombian Navy has captured 78 individuals of this criminal organization, as well, five minors have recovered and 21 of its members have been voluntarily brought to justice on the Colombian Pacific coast.

Finally, the Navy extended the invitation to the community to report any suspicious activity that threatens the safety and tranquility of the inhabitants of the region, to lines 123, 146 and 147, available 24 hours a day.
