In the midst of controversies over halting the construction of the Maya Train, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) announced that the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) has already started the construction of another 550 km for sections 6 and 7.
Through his Twitter account, the president reported on his visit to camps for military engineers, whom he recognized for the progress in the works of one of his administration's flagship projects.
To this, he assured that this Megaproject, as well as the Felipe Angeles (AIFA) or the Dos Bocas Refinery, are “non-profit works; truly public” and with benefit to all Mexicans. He also stated that it will expedite the visit of tourists to the main archaeological remains and other attractions in the southeast of the country.
“What are we looking for with the construction of the Mayan Train? That those tourists who come to enjoy the Caribbean beaches can enter the territory and can stay longer and be able to enjoy an extraordinary wealth,” he said.
