On Sunday 3 April 2022, Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) will be remembered as for the first time he won a victory in the World Speed Motorcycling Championship and arrived in the MotoGP, after winning the Grand Prix of the Argentine Republic held at the Termas de Río Hondo Autodromo, Santiago del Estero, in the third date of the season. In addition, the Spaniard is the new leader of the championship and his victory represented the triumphant debut of the Italian brand in the premier category.

In the previous one, Espargaró built a dream weekend as he achieved pole positions (best qualifying time). But after a great start Jorge Martín (Ducati) beat his compatriot, jumped to the top and set the pace in the first laps. Behind Aleix Espargaró tried to approach and in an expectant position his brother, Pol Espargaró (Honda), who started fourth and won a position.

After the first third of the competition played over 25 laps, the differences between Martín and Espargaró were reduced and they were joined by their compatriot Alex Rins (Suzuki), who realized Pol Espargaró, who lost his position after passing in the first corner, although he was then left out by a fall.

After taking a break to take care of his tires, Aleix went with everything in the third and final part of the race and attacked Martín. On two occasions Espargaró managed to overcome it on the opposite straight whose final speeds ranged 335 km/h, but when he reached the corner he passed and Martín regained command. But the third was the winner and Aprilia's one concluded a good maneuver in which he did not lose his turning radius and came out well armed to regain leadership.

Espargaró immediately moved away and knew how to capitalize on his strategy: tire management in the first half and wear in the last half to be able to fight hard for his first victory in the premier category. It was his absolute triumphant debut in the World Cup in which he won for the first time in a cumulative of 284 races: 23 in 125 cm5, 61 in 250 cm3/Moto2 and 200 in MotoGP. In addition, Aprilia had never won in the premier category.

“I have been looking for this result for a long time and I can achieve it in my 200th race. I had a really good pace, but I felt a lot of pressure. Everyone told me I was going to win easily, but it wasn't like that, it wasn't an easy race. We work hard to achieve a good configuration on the bike and I want to thank the whole Aprilia family for that. The most beautiful thing about this is to be leading the championship. It's a dream,” Aleix said, he has 45 points and takes 7 to Binder and 9 to Bastianini.
