Two years later, the captivating plot of Alice in Borderland will once again enchant the audience with the release of the second season that Netflix is ready for. Recently, the streaming platform announced the end of filming through a video in which the actors shared the experience of working on this long-awaited continuation. Also, as part of this announcement, it was confirmed that the new chapters will be released in December.
The series is based on Haro Aso's survival and suspense manga that was originally published in Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in Japan. The story introduces us to Arisu, a young Japanese man who has no great aspirations in his life other than playing video games. Without employment or studies, he has become a disappointment to his wealthy family, so he always finds a way out of these pressures in his two best friends. One day, the three of them go out to hang out in the city and appear in a completely empty Tokyo, a kind of alternative reality, and they must find their way out through a practically deadly game dynamic.
According to the streaming service, this is the official synopsis: “Arisu, a lazy and unemployed young man with an undeniable passion for video games, suddenly meets two of his friends in an alternative and deserted Tokyo where they will have to overcome successive difficulties to survive. In this strange and cruel world, Arisu meets Usagi, a girl who faces games alone. As they risk their lives, they will try to unravel the mysteries of this Machiavellian universe.”
Kento Yamazaki, like Arisu, and Tao Tsuchiya, as Usagi, lead a cast also composed of Nijiro Murakami, Yuki Morinaga, Keita Machida, Ayaka Miyoshi, Dori Sakurada, Aya Asahina, Shuntaro Yanagi, Yutaro Watanabe, Ayame Misaki, Mizuki Yoshida, Tsuyoshi Abe, Nobuaki Kaneko, Sho Aoyagi and Riisa Naka. The first season, divided into eight parts, was directed by Shinsuke Sato.
The new episodes will arrive at the end of 2022
The second season of Alice in Borderland will be released in December this year through Netflix. There is still no official release date nor has a trailer revealed that shows how the characters will continue in this adventure to return to the real world and not die trying.
The initial installment of the live-action adaptation of the manga recounted the events of the first 31 chapters and there are still 33 to tell in this version in flesh and blood. Therefore, the next episodes that will hit the platform could be the last thing we will see in the story of Arisu, Usagi and the other characters that captivated viewers. Nothing is said yet and popularity could lead it to take an original course like other productions of the streaming giant.
