At 20 years of age, Tamaulipan Edson Ismael Ramírez Ramírez Ramírez Ramírez Ramírez Ramírez will fulfill his dream he had since he was 11 years old when he watched the London 2012 Olympic Games on television and had the illusion of going to the JO at some point in his life.
The sports shooter came to this discipline by chance: “I stayed because it is mostly an individual sport. In 2012, when it was the London Olympics, in a sports center where I accompanied my sister and my mother, I was walking and I came across a shooting range. They invited me to try myself that day, they saw that I had qualities, they invited me, I liked it and I continued.”
Since she was thirteen years old she excelled in this discipline, and she has been an example for her 15-year-old sister Frida Carolina who follows her brother's path in sports shooting.
Edson Ramírez's journey has not been easy, in 2018 when he was a medalist no federal authority approached him. In its first Central American Games in Barranquilla, Colombia was the most outstanding Mexican shooter, won the gold medal and in the same year was the second Mexican in winning a sports shooting medal at a Youth Olympic Games.
For his average age, his competition scores are above, the Mexican shooter will seek to climb to the podium in Tokyo, for that to happen he must stand out among the best scores ranging from 629 to 631 points in the ranking.
Ramirez will represent Mexico in the 10-meter men's air rifle shooting test that consists of shooting 60 times for an hour and fifteen minutes, trying to make the best accuracy to hit the 10. The weapon they use weighs up to 4.6 kilos.
Although his father had different plans because he dedicated himself to being a baseball player; he always kept Edson close to the sport and dreamed of his son following in the footsteps of his godfather the “El Rocket Valdez” former professional baseball player, Edson Ramirez's insistence, interest and amazement led him to experiment with the rifle and from that moment on he knew it was his passion. From a young age, his coaches Gerges Chiprut, in Ciudad Victoria and Blas Ruiz, in Saltillo, have trained him to get where he is and thanks to his concentration, strength, skill, preparation and discipline because instead of resting he preferred to train (according to his coaches) he has established himself as one of the young promises in shooting casual
The shooter, nicknamed the Chinese for his slanted eyes, after his performance in the Sports Shooting Qualifier held in El Salvador, took the gold medal in the mixed 10-meter air rifle competition, with which feat he secured his place at the Tokyo Olympics: he fulfilled his greatest dream of his sports career and I express it to CONADE in the following words:
“I am very happy because one of the objectives was achieved, which was to get a medal, it was not possible for the individual part, but fortunately for teams it was. In addition, it was quite father to compete outside Mexico again, exciting to meet opponents from other countries again”
