The departure of Juan Carlos Osorio from América from Cali was not a big surprise for people, since for several months this possibility had been talked about, however, the results in the last few dates in the BetPlay League, as well as his good start to the season in this season, were postponing an idea that had already been rolling in the head of the policies on the computer. Finally, on March 31, the vallecaucano club confirmed the departure of the risaraldense coach.

“América de Cali informs its fans, the media and the general public that, following a decision taken by mutual agreement and an effort by both parties, the contractual relationship with strategist Juan Carlos Osorio was terminated. We wish him success in his professional career,” the team said in a statement that was published on their social networks. This also confirms that Pompilio Páez will lead the team against Millonarios.

The situation in the team is not the best, they are currently placed in the 15th square of the standings with 15 points, they were eliminated from the Copa Sudamericana against Independiente Medellín in the first round and now they must try to add up in the remaining seven matches to be able to aspire to a place in the top eight finishers.

The Vallecaucano team managed to rise after five years in the second category of Colombian football with coach Hernán Torres who had an excellent season with the 'Red Devils'. In his first year in the top flight he managed to qualify for both playoffs, so he was able to stay in the first division, however, poor results in the tournament ending 2017 caused Torres to be fired by the directors.

Since then, eleven technicians have passed through the scarlet team, between interim and final. After Torres' departure, one of the old acquaintances of the house arrived, Jorge 'El Polilla' Da Silva, who raised the team's head and took it to the semifinals where he fell to Millonarios. At the start of the season in 2018, they played the Copa Sudamericana, however, but were eliminated against Defensa y Justicia in the first round. Which is why Portuguese Pedro Felicio Santos came to lead the club.

The Portuguese did not manage to improve the team's performance, so for the end of 2018 tournament, on date 5 he was removed from his post and was replaced by interim Carlos Fernando Asprilla, until the club confirmed the arrival of experienced Fernando 'El Pecoso' Castro, who failed to lead the team to the final stages of the local tournament, but was ratified to be the coach in 2019. The results did not accompany them in this new year, so the managers decided to fire him and as a replacement Jersson González arrived as interim coach until the Brazilian Alexandre Guimaraes was confirmed at the end.

The Brazilian managed to lead America to become champion of Colombian football again after eleven years, however, due to the impact of the pandemic and the halt of sports tournaments, the team decided to fire the coach, who was again replaced by Argentine Juan Cruz Real, who led America to win a new title, however, in the following season the results were not as expected and he was fired from the team, Jersson González again took the reins of the team until Juan Carlos Osorio was signed.

Now, after the poor results of the last few dates, the managers decided to terminate the risaraldense coach's contract and confirmed Pompilio Páez as interim coach, while the managers manage to establish who will be in charge of leading the team's new process in the future.
