Oaxaca was nominated in the Leading Escapa Destination category in Mexico, Central America and the World 2021 by the World Travel Awards in its 28th edition, which are the most important tourism awards worldwide.
The Ministry of Tourism of the State Government (Sectur Oaxaca) reported that for the second consecutive year it is on the list of the best places in the tourism industry. In 2020 he won the “Oscar” award for world tourism in the category Leading Urban Getaway Destination in Mexico and Central America.

Among the destinations he competes against in Central America are: Belize City, Acapulco, Tijuana, Mazatlan, Mexico City, San Jose (Costa Rica). In the category of World's Leading City Break Destination 2021, it contends with Athens (Greece), Cape Town, Dubai, Almaty (Kazakhstan), Geneva, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, Lisbon, Los Angeles, New York, Playa del Carmen, Tokyo, Orlando, Porto, Sydney, Medellin (Colombia), among others.
