The Minister of Transport and Communications, Nicolás Bustamante, arrived in Junín to talk with the transport unions that on the fifth day of the strike they radicalized the protests. Especially in Huancayo where there were abuses this Friday. The official said that they have agreed with carriers to allow space within a certain period of time to allow trucks carrying basic necessities to pass through.
“I don't know if it's a truce, but the leaders have pledged to let 10 units pass every so often that bring perishable products to the markets,” Bustamante explained.
When asked by the press, whether the Executive has minimized the protests, he pointed out that this is not the case. Rather, the issue happens because we are in times of natural disasters, because of the phenomenon of rainfall in different parts of the country. He added that tomorrow he will travel to Amazonas to see the opening of roads.
To avoid answering further questions, he said he will only report what is important to citizens about the agreements reached. And he ended by saying: “We are sitting with the leaders, we hope that tomorrow when we sign the minutes the strike can be lifted.”
MINISTERS TRAVEL
The Presidency of the Council of Ministers arranged for a delegation of ministers to travel to the city of Huancayo, in order to strengthen the dialogue with the guilds of striking carriers. Through a message on his official Twitter account, it was indicated that the Ministers of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sánchez; Agrarian Development, Óscar Zea; and of Culture, Alejandro Salas, are traveling.
“We urge dialogue and reject all vandalism,” says the publication on social networks. Freight carriers are currently on strike for five days; and several regions of the country are being blocked and protesters are present on the country's main roads.
The report issued this morning by the Superintendency of Land Transport of People, Cargo and Goods (Sutran) indicated that the blockade of roads interrupts traffic communications routes in six regions, mainly in Junín, Arequipa and Puno.
Roberto Sánchez, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, commented: “We are addressing Jauja to put on the agenda what is important, dealing with the legitimate demands of carriers, farmers, ranchers. We will talk with that will with respect for social peace, private property and the right to a just protest with order and responsibility.”
For his part, Alejandro Salas, Minister of Culture, pointed out that as part of the State, they are responding to the call of the president who entrusted them with the task of going to negotiate in Junín, and that is why they paralyzed the operational issue in their respective portfolios, because the country is calling them.
“We have been entrusted to go to the area where social conflicts occur, and give citizens peace of mind about being able to listen to the demands they have. Violence will never lead to anything new,” he said.
He said they'll set up a technical table. On the possibility of eliminating the Selective Consumption Tax on fuel, he said that these are technical proposals and should be taken with great care.
