Mexico's Luis Avilés won the silver medal at the World Athletics World Cup and set a historic record

The “Flash de Cuautla”, Luis Antonio Avilés Ferreiro, achieved one of his dreams as an athlete at the U20 World Athletics Championship, held in Naibori. With a time of 44.95 seconds in the 400-meter race, he achieved a historic mark in Mexican athletics and won the silver medal.

He is the second Mexican to run under 45 seconds, after Alejandro Cardenas. The athlete who is only 19 years old, has prepared every day to be able to achieve his goals. Currently, he is one of the most important promises for athletics in Mexico, among his achievements is the title of world champion in his category with a gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games in 2018.

“When I saw my teammates at Club Corebo return from National Championships, sad because they weren't doing well, I learned that I wanted to change history, for Mexico to see that there is unimaginable talent in Morelos and that we could go out to win” These were the words that the young athlete expressed after winning the gold medal in Los Juegos Youth Olympians in Buenos Aires, Argentina and he succeeded. He has put the name of Mexico at the top thanks to his constant effort, Luis Avilés is one of the promises of athletics in Mexico and his name will be marked in the history of his country.

At the Nairobi World Cups, Avilés Ferreiro's achievement was the second medal for the tricolor country. The Mexican marchista, Sofía Ramos, won the gold medal in the 10km race. So far Luis is positioned as the third best sprinter in Mexico behind Alejandro Cardenas (44:31) and Juan Pedro Toledo (45.24).
