The head of Mexico City's Attorney General's Office (FGJCDMX), Ernestina Godoy, welcomed the work that was carried out on the investigation folder for the collapse of a section of Metro Line 12, which she described as “extraordinary”.
The prosecutor's statements were given during the award and presentation of the “José María Iglesias” medal to Public Prosecutions where Godoy mentioned that “her resolution has set a precedent for justice in our country.” In this event, Maria de la Luz Alcantar was awarded, who participated in the integration of the folder for the collapse of Line 12.
“The integration of the folder was an excellent job in which the theory of the case allowed all the people involved to work in a coordinated manner and that is a precedent in the form of ministerial work,” said Ernestina Godoy.
Ernestina Godoy also assured that the evidence presented was solid and irrefutable, allowing them to be presented before a supervising judge despite the fact that the legal representatives of the victims' families have accused that none of them had fully vented during the hearings.
With regard to the construction of the collapsed section, Mexico City's Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum, assured that before the end of 2022, Line 12 will be rehabilitated and its service will be restored.
During a press conference held on March 28, the capital's president said that those involved will work to have the section rehabilitated in the Tláhuac mayor's office so that it is delivered within the fixed deadline.
“The goal for us is obviously to end this year and from now on there is an acceleration of all processes. And the secretary of works and services will be there every week, or the director of the metro, showing progress in the elevated section and also in the underground section,” said the Head of Government.
However, Sheinbaum Pardo recalled that most of the costs will be borne by the construction companies, so the completion of the project depends on them.
In addition, the Head of Government pointed out that this is a project that has required many studies, because each part to be rehabilitated is different, not only because it is an elevated section and not underground, so the time to finish could vary, but she hoped that it will be completed this year.
“Each section is different, it is not an executive project that is unique for the entire elevated section, in the metal part, but each part has its own characteristics and several studies have had to be carried out,” he concluded.
For his part, Jesús Esteva Medina, Secretary of Works and Services of the Government of the country's capital, explained that the collapsed structure, between Tezonco and Olivos station, will be dismantled in order to rebuild the entire section that was affected. He also indicated that the construction company ICA will be the one to carry out its rehabilitation.
“As for the similar section, the section that we call 'twin stretch' or 'symmetrical' is 200 meters away from the section that collapsed and it is going to be dismantled, on the recommendation of the Technical Advisory Committee, to give a structure similar to that of the section being reconstructed: the symmetrical section is a similar section where you have a extension of the section, to three lines of rails and that is where we are going to dismantle and we are going to take it to three blocks”, said the public official.
