The President of Ukraine, Volodymir Zelensky, sent a message of thanks to his namesake in Colombia, Ivan Duque Márquez, for the support he has given his country in the midst of the difficult time it is experiencing because of the Russian invasion.

Through his Twitter account, the president of Ukraine assured that the aid that Colombia has provided to that country has not only been economic, but that defense agreements have also been made. The message came after a 20-minute telephone conversation between the two leaders this Saturday, in which projects after the end of the invasion were mentioned.

“I'm happy to contact @IvanDuque. I thank Colombia for its humanitarian assistance and consolidation of South American countries in support of Ukraine. We agreed to start joint economic and defensive projects after the war,” the president wrote on his Twitter profile.

Duque, who is advancing the regional agenda in the Eastern Plains, revealed details of the conversation with Zelensky in the middle of a stop in Villavicencio. According to the head of state, during the telephone dialogue he took the opportunity to express the solidarity of the Colombian and Latin American peoples with Ukraine amid the critical situation due to the Russian invasion.

“We have condemned this brutal attack on humanity. You have our support, not only condemning this horrible circumstance, this horrible attack, but we have also been contributing through humanitarian support and other mechanisms,” said President Duque.

In the midst of the dialogue, Zelensky would have proposed to the President of Colombia to lead efforts with other Latin American countries to provide humanitarian assistance and support to his compatriots in the midst of the crisis caused by the invasion that began on February 24.

The Colombian president raised the need to channel aid to the Ukrainian people through the UN. He also stressed the need to collaborate on ways to mitigate the migration crisis in Eastern Europe, and offered Colombia's experience with Venezuelan migration to support these measures.

According to Duque, the conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart was “moving, because President Zelensky has shown the world his courage.” He also warned that the defense of Ukrainians against the invasion of Russian armies “has been an example for the world in the defense of its people” and asked that “these acts of horror must end... Enough of this horror, enough of this war.”

It should be recalled that the president of Colombia was questioned a few days ago, when it became known that he would send economic support to the country invaded by Russia.
