In 2021, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MinTIC) trained more than 150,000 Colombians in literacy and digital well-being. Now, the portfolio wants to increase that figure and enabled ten free and certifiable short courses on digital skills.

Learning to function on the internet can bring great benefits to those who are encouraged.

According to the National Consulting Center, 55% of Colombians used the network to work beyond communication and entertainment during the first ten months of 2020. Business, work and basic and higher education depended heavily on the internet when face-to-face spaces were not available.

Thus, skillful and responsible use of the internet can offer unexpected opportunities. To prove this, a good start is to take these virtual courses of the “We Arrive with ICT” initiative, accessible to people with disabilities and whose certification can be obtained in just one day.

This was what Carmen Ligia Valderrama, minister of that portfolio, said:

In addition to the courses themselves, the ICT Ministry will also set up various spaces in local authorities and official colleges to bring Colombians closer to digital culture.

There is a course called Internet Training for Seniors, which teaches the benefits that the network can bring to users over the age of 60. There is also Learn how to use the internet easily, for those with limited knowledge of how digital communication works. A third basic course is Introduction to the Digital World

Take advantage of your mobile devices: cell phones, tablets and laptops, is another option that is aimed at recognizing the devices from which you can access the network.

Two of the courses in Arrived with ICT are useful to reinforce constructive digital communication. One of them is Transform Your World with the Internet, which teaches how to create digital activism strategies to defend causes that are of general interest. The other is Online Journalism at your fingertips, which seeks to promote community digital journalism.

A very useful course is How to Do Online Procedures with the State, which introduces the trainee to virtual channels to do some online errands and save time and money in the process.

In the face of Internet threats, it is worth the course Learn to take care of yourself in the digital world, which seeks to alert users to the dangers they may encounter on the Internet and how to prevent them to improve their experience.

There are also courses of interest to professionals: the course ICT, fundamental allies for teleworking, working at home and remote work allows users to recognize useful tools for transferring their functions to the network.

Finally, for teachers facing the challenge of teaching digital native students, there is the course I am an ICT teacher: share your knowledge with the community.
