George Forsyth and Sonia La Torre: How they met, how long they've been together and more about their love story

George Forsyth may have lost the 2021 General Election, but he won a presidential position much more: the love of Sonia La Torre, a 29-year-old businesswoman from Cajamarca. Following his dream divorce from actress Vanessa Terkes, former mayor La Victoria started a new romance and until got engaged to his partner in February of this year.

Through her official Instagram account, La Torre announced that she would soon marry the former Alianza Lima footballer, who asked her to marry her on the shores of the sea in Punta Cana. In the photos that Sonia posted you can see the couple kissing and showing the engagement ring.

“I do, I love you,” George Forsyth's fiancée wrote as she pointed to the ring she wore on her finger. Immediately, his publication won thousands of likes, as well as comments from users who did not believe that this romance is totally true, since the commitment is given at the beginning of the Municipal Elections campaign.

Gigi Mitre and Rodrigo González, hosts of Amor y Fuego, speculated that this romance would be a strategy to win votes. “Maybe he is repeating what he already did to us, he already saw our face once, Vanessa Terkes, the campaign. Love sells and pulls, we'll see,” said the popular Peluchín weeks ago.

Although Forsyth has registered for the Somos Perú party, he has not yet announced his official nomination for mayor of the Municipality of Lima. Whether this happens or not, the fact is that the former presidential candidate is focused on the preparations for his wedding and shouting his love from the four winds.

HOW DID THEY MEET?

The couple met in November 2020 in the department of Cajamarca, where George Forsyth traveled on election campaign issues. Although the former footballer's schedule was quite tight, he decided to attend a restaurant in the company of a friend to eat ceviche. It was there that he saw his now-fiancée for the first time.

“We didn't have anything planned. She was coming for a weekend and I was doing a very dedicated job. It was a surprise, but definitely, if we're here, it's because there was definitely chemistry. I thought he was a very nice person, with a great sense of humor, which is very important to me, and that's why after lunch I had to dare to ask him for his phone,” he told Cosas magazine.

“I arrived and was definitely surprised. Because it never crossed my mind that I was going to meet George. At the time, I was first in the polls, so I was surprised. And well, the next day he writes to me and says: 'And now how do we do? If you live in Cajamarca, '” Sonia recalled.

After this first meeting, both decided to travel to Lima or Cajamarca to see each other again and thus get to know each other better. “It was a complex period, because not only was she campaigning, and not only did she live in Cajamarca. Apart from that there was also the covid. So the opportunities to see each other might not have been so often, but we kept a lot of communication,” said Forsyth.

HE ASKED HER TO BE HIS SWEETHEARTS

George Forsyth and Sonia La Torre made their love relationship official in January 2021, two months after they met. The businesswoman said that the former mayor of La Victoria asked her to be in love in a rather special way, precisely at the birthday party of one of her best friends. And it is that in the middle of the meeting, the former footballer decided to take her to the Country Club to make the proposal.

“They come up to me and say, 'Miss, they're waiting for you. ' Then I go down and open the door, and the whole floor was with rose petals, there were candles, flower arrangements, balloons, etc. We were at the table and there was a dinner. We finished dinner and there was a little box with a jewel. Then I open it and he gives me a gold chain with a heart charm and asks me 'Do you want to be my girlfriend', and he put it on me,” he said.

For his part, the former presidential candidate was grateful to his partner for the year and three months they have been together. According to him, what he likes most about Sonia is her intelligence, professional discipline and her taste for sports. The couple does not rule out moving to Cajamarca or Lima, always depending on what is best for their jobs.
