For a week the 90th anniversary of Fernando Botero will be celebrated

With exhibitions, talks, meetings and screenings, the Botero Museum, the Universidad del Rosario and the Museum of Antioquia, came together to celebrate the life of one of the most famous Colombian artists in the international arena

Next Tuesday, April 19, the Colombian artist, Fernando Botero, will be 90 years old. For this reason, the Botero Museum, the Universidad del Rosario and the Museum of Antioquia, came together to celebrate the life of one of the most famous Colombian artists in the international arena.

The celebration will begin on the day of his birthday and will run throughout the week, with activities that include, the taking of social networks with the collections of Botero of the Banco de la República and the Museum of Antioquia.

In addition, an academic event will be held, throughout Wednesday 20, which will explain about the work and the importance of Maestro Botero for Colombia. While on Thursday, April 21, there will be a workshop called 'Piñatas Explosivas', in which the artist Paulo Licona, calls for a great celebration around piñatas inspired by the work of Antioquia.

Fernando Botero's work is characterized by creativity, sensuality in forms, handling volume, taste for unexpected details and a combination of irony and respect that has marked his treatment of the most important Colombian themes in history or his allusions to universal painting.

Fernando Botero was born on April 19, 1932 in Medellín, Antioquia and this year marks the 90th anniversary of a life dedicated to painting, sculpture and drawing. The master is one of the most recognized Colombian artists in the international arena, his works are exhibited in different museums and his sculptures are imposed in squares and public stages in different cities around the world.

The great feature of his work is the volume of his works. El paisa is the national artist who has given one of the most significant cultural gifts to Colombians: the collection that makes up the Botero Museum of the Banco de la República located in the historic center of Bogotá.

The museum on its eastern side houses 123 works of his own, between 1980 and 1990. While on the western side, you can see 85 works that were part of his private collection, including artists such as Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, August Renoir, Joan Miró and Max Beckmann, among others.

From that Tuesday, April 19, people will be able to join the celebration, on social networks, through #Botero90años, commenting on this tribute in which the Botero and Antioquia Museums will share the great works of the Colombian artist.

The next day, the seminar will be held: “Botero 90 years. Past and Future”. The objective of this meeting will be to understand cultural, political and social changes through the life of one of the greatest Colombian artists, this event will be held at the Luis Ángel Arango Library.

Finally, the celebration will conclude on Friday, April 22, with the exhibitions: 'The Apotheosis of Botero: A Young Colombian Painter in the Middle of the 20th Century', by Christian Padilla, art historian and independent curator. And 'The presence of Botero in the artistic search of Beatriz González', a conversation between teacher Beatriz González and artist, curator and art historian Natalia Gutiérrez Montes, about the importance of Botero's work in generations of Colombian artists.
