The national strike promoted by the guilds of carriers and farmers is the new crisis facing the government of Pedro Castillo. However, protesters have also demanded answers from parts of Congress, so the board of spokespersons will meet tomorrow Sunday, April 3 from 10:00 a.m. to attend to the demands of the population.
The president of the Congress, María del Carmen Alva, has confirmed that the only item on tomorrow's agenda will be the crisis in various regions of the country generated after the price hike. The virtual meeting will seek to present possible solutions to end the strike that is about to be completed one week. “We have decided to convene a virtual Board of Spokespersons, setting as the only agenda item the crisis situation in various regions of the country to propose measures since Congress,” he wrote from his Twitter account.
On the other hand, the congressman of Peru Libre, E dgar Tello regretted that the complicated situation faced by workers affected by the price hike ended in a demonstration. “It's part of a feeling of the population that wants their problems to be solved, but we don't have to get to that extreme (to make a stoppage), but rather we have to exhaust dialogue. I think that will stabilize better so that things can be backed up,” were his statements to channel N.
Also from Peru Libre, its spokesman Waldemar Cerrón announced that a delegation of congressmen will be present in Huancayo, a city where the greatest incidents have been recorded during the demonstrations. “We are going to set up the dialogue table, since so far there is no specific list of demands on what our friends in transport, agriculture and merchants who have pledged to this measure of struggle are proposing,” he said.
REACTIONS FROM PARLIAMENT
While the president of the Congress has announced the meeting of spokespersons, another section of the opposition has announced a possible interpellation to the Minister of Agriculture in the face of the impossibility of reaching an agreement with the protesters. The announcement was made by Hernando Guerra García from Fuerza Popular, who said that the collection of signatures among parliamentarians is already being promoted to make the measure.
“It must be clearly stated that it is the executive who governs. Congress has a task of legislating, which is not a swift task, and to oversee. I think that, at least from our bench and from several of the opposition, we have been very attentive to the inaction, the regular work towards the bad of the Minister of Agriculture,” he told RPP Noticias.
“I hope that the interpellation will proceed, that (the benches) will support so that the minister gives us an explanation on the issue of prices and transport. It is the Government that has to take action instead of blaming it on the world, on Fujimorism. Governments are not there to whine, they are there to solve the problems of citizenship,” he added.
Guerra García was not enthusiastic about the decision to establish a technical table between the government and the citizens who submit their claims; on the contrary, I consider that “it will take a while”. “We have made a very concrete proposal that the Government has in its hands, which is to withdraw the selective consumption tax on gasoline until December,” added the member of the Popular Force Bank.
