On the morning of Friday, April 1, President Iván Duque and the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, met to sign the construction act of the Western Longitudinal Highway (ALO) Sur, and the contracts for the North Access 2 project, with which the North Highway will be expanded. The event was held at the Casa de Nariño, where the Minister of Transport, Angela María Orozco, and the president of the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), Manuel Felipe Gutiérrez, were also present.
In the middle of the event, it was surprising that at the time when the mayor took the floor, she addressed several praises and thanks to President Iván Duque, despite the fact that throughout their governments they have stood out for not agreeing and having differences. Lopéz stressed that the Duque government supported these two projects to improve mobility in Bogotá and have the largest investment in infrastructure.
But the thanks also came back, because when the president of the Colombians had to speak, he highlighted the words of the mayor of Bogotá and pointed out that her government's investment in these works “we do so because these works have no political color, these works are not ideological”.
The moment was revived by politicians on Twitter, where the president published the recording of the moment when Claudia López praises him. “We appreciate the recognition of the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, in stating that our Government has invested the most in infrastructure and sustainable mobility. This is possible when working as a team for the well-being of citizens,” the president wrote.
For her part, the mayor responded by insisting on what has been the Duque government's investment in infrastructure and mobility issues for Bogotá, “her government has financed, contracted and initiated the largest investment in sustainable mobility in Bogotá's history: the first metro line, the expansion of Autonorte, Cra 7ma, ALO Sur. And soon the second metro line and 13th street,” López wrote.
On Twitter, the accolades surprised users of the network, who have shared the trills with different comments. “This is definitely not to believe”; “It is good to see Mayor Claudia Lopez, to recognize the great work that Iván Duque has done”; “I think President Duque that you have nothing to thank this mayor, because she always tried to make it look bad”; “I hope it is really recognition and not for some strategy escondida”, were some of the reactions.
It should be noted that the works that generated this situation, according to both leaders, will improve access to the city by Carrera Seventima and the North Highway, will benefit not only the inhabitants of Bogotá, but also those of the surrounding municipalities: Cajicá, Tabio, Tenjo, Chia, Cota, Briceño, Tocancipá, Tunja, Zipaquira, Sopó, La Calera and Guasca.
“All entrances to Bogotá from the east, north, south and west will be expanded, modernized, with clean and massive public transport for the Bogotá Region of the 21st century,” said the mayor of Bogotá.
