At least nine people died this Saturday in a clash between suspected hit men and the Army, National Guard and State Police, in Jiquilpan, Michoacán, one of the most violent states in the country.
According to the information, the collision occurred in the early morning, during a land patrol in the vicinity of the road that goes to the municipality of Sahuayo. There, elements of the National Guard detected the presence of a van carrying armed men, which began a pursuit. Reports indicate that civilians lost control of the unit and were injured, resulting in four deaths.
Later, on Avenida Circunvalación, in the municipality of Jiquilpan, suspected members of organized crime, who were traveling in a gray Dodge Attitude vehicle, with Jalisco state license plates, began shooting at elements of the Armed Forces, which led to a confrontation.
The officers repelled the assault and four offenders were killed. In that same event, an element of the Municipal Police lost his life.
Long guns, tactical clothing and ballistic vests were secured at the crime scene. Michoacán's Ministry of Public Security posted on its social networks: “In Sahuayo and Jiquilpan, elements of the Michoacán Police, National Guard, Local Police and Mexican Army neutralized eight criminal targets. In addition, weapons and vehicles were secured. A municipal agent lost his life in the line of duty.”
Through his social networks, the commander of self-defense groups Ulises Lara, who reports on the events that occurred in Michoacán, reported that armed people entered the municipality of Jiquilpan at 01:05 hours this Saturday, according to Lara they were people from the Sierra Bird, a group linked to the Jalisco Nueva Cartel Generation (CJNG), who was recently identified as responsible for the murder of at least 17 people in San José de Gracia.
The authorities have reported that the main reason for the incident is an internal dispute of the CJNG.
Michoacán (central-west of Mexico) is one of the country's hotspots. The state succumbs day by day under the weight of lead. The violence unleashed by the CJNG and Michoacán criminal groups is incessant. On March 27, 20 people who were in a palenque, on the El Paraíso ranch, in Zinapécuaro, Michoacán, were killed by members of the Los Correa cartel.
According to official information, this criminal group has quarrels with the CJNG and its chief of plaza, William Edwin Rivera Padilla, alias the Will or the Barbas. Journalist Hector de Mauleón claims that this subject was part of the Michoacán Family. As the leader of this cartel, the Barbas betrayed them.
