On Friday morning, President Iván Duque, the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López; the Minister of Transport, Angela María Orozco, and the president of the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), Manuel Felipe Gutiérrez, signed the construction act of the Western Longitudinal Highway (ALO) South, and the contracts for the Acesto Norte 2 project, with which the North Highway will be expanded.
The works, which will improve access to the city via Carrera Seventh and the North Highway, will benefit not only the inhabitants of Bogotá, but also those in the surrounding municipalities: Cajicá, Tabio, Tenjo, Chia, Cota, Briceño, Tocancipá, Tunja, Zipaquirá, Sopó, La Calera and Guasca.
Next, the local president said that, “Both the construction and the expansion of the North Highway and the seventh motorway generate almost 20,000 jobs each, so this is employment for the people of Bogota who need it today, it is productivity and competitiveness for our entrepreneurs, that is mobility clean and sustainable environment for our citizens”.
On what the ALO Sur project will be like, the Government informed that the construction of a 9.5 km double carriageway is planned; a second 9.5 km road, as well as the improvement of a 4.5 km stretch, so that the existing road passes from three to four lanes, and connects with the concession of the Third Lane Bogotá - Girardot.
This project also plans the construction of two vehicular bridges over the Bogotá River, which would be added to those already existing over the El Muña sector and the boundaries of the Capital District. Likewise, two uneven intersections will be manufactured: one will be connected to ALO Sur with 13th Street (Fontibon), while the second will be built on Indumil Avenue (Soacha).
In this road corridor, it is also contemplated the construction of 10 kilometers of cycloruta, and also the creation of nearly 153,000 square meters of public space.
With this work, according to the president of the ANI, the travel time between the boundaries of Bogotá and 13th Street will go from one hour to just 15 minutes. “The savings will be total,” Gutierrez said.

The work of Accesos Norte 2 also includes the construction of 4.93 km of the second road of the Seventh Road, between 200 and 245 streets, as well as the construction and improvement of the Sopó perimeter by 7.2 km.
Likewise, between streets 200 and 245, additional platforms and cycle routes will be built, in order to improve the mobility of pedestrians.
With the work, in agreement with the national government, vehicle decongestion will be achieved between Bogotá and neighboring municipalities such as Chia, Sopó, Tocancipá, Zipaquirá and Cajicá.
