The initiative was signed in 2015 but was only able to start the construction phase in August 2020. To date, the project is already progressing by 56.32%, exceeding half in the execution of works, which allowed the completion of these two sections.

A rehabilitation of 146 km of track was carried out, as well as an intervention of 17 bridges, the construction of two weighing areas and the stabilization of six areas that presented problems of landslides that affected the mobility of the corridor in winter.

The works also included an Operations Control Center (CCO) in the municipality of Lleida, a cycle route in Ibagué that connects the El Salado sector with the Girardot-Ibagué-Cajamarca project cycle route (GICA), and public space areas in Armero Guayabal, Mariquita, Alvarado, Venadillo and Lleida, which improve the passage through said municipalities, making them more attractive for tourism.

The road now has a modern Intelligent Transport System (ITS) that is continuously monitored by the CCO. This project connects the departments of Tolima and Caldas through a 256-kilometer corridor.
