In the afternoon of Thursday, March 31, due to the heavy rains that occurred during the day in Medellin and the Aburrá Valley, there was a sudden increase that surprised citizens living near the La Iguana ravine, located in the west of the capital of Antioquia.
In the face of the emergency, Laura Duarte, director of the Administrative Department for Disaster Risk Management (DAGRD), clarified that the growth has directly impacted the Blanquizal sector, so the decision was made to initiate the immediate and preventive evacuation of seven families living in the affected area.
As confirmed by the DAGRD, at least eight fire units were arranged to counter the emergency for the area in danger.
“Fire units perform damage assessment and needs analysis. Some homes were evacuated preventively after the activation of the Siat community alarms,” said the risk management authority.
According to information from El Colombiano, while an official report is being consolidated, the neighborhood Olaya Herrera, Los Colores, La Iguana and all areas adjacent to the National University are among the sectors that are at risk and could be affected.
Finally, the director of DAGRD announced that they will continue to monitor the area and that lines 123 are enabled to attend to any emergency that may arise in the following hours in western Medellín.
