This week began with the Third Report of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) on the forced disappearance of the 43 students of the Isidro Burgos school in Ayotzinapa.
In it, they revealed a handful of irregularities around the research project that culminated in the so-called Historical Truth. From the infiltration of La Sedena into the Normal School, to the manipulation of the Cocula landfill site, the falsification and simulation of delivery of documents, among other things.
In this regard, journalist Raymundo Riva Palacio published in his most recent column for Ejecentral that during the first investigations, Enrique Peña Nieto was clear with his demands: “I don't want to pass like the president who murdered the students,” he told Tomás Zerón.
However, it has been found during the third GIEI report that everything investigated at that time is not very true, nor historical. What the Mexican columnist considered a failure.
In addition, he assured that EPN and colleagues gave a real demonstration of the “manual for what a government should never do”, not only in student conflicts, but in tragedies at all levels.
In the first instance, notice was given to the appropriate authorities, who came under the leadership of prosecutor Iñaki Blanco, who was responsible for carrying out the investigation that until now remains buried. The Federal Police denied his support, and the 27th battalion generated from its facilities.
Then the time would have come to introduce them to Enrique Peña Nieto, who considered that the Attorney General's Office should take up the case, but Aurelio Nuño stopped him. He assured, it was something municipal. Prosecutor Murillo Karam also minimized it and assured that the students would appear little by little.
After 15 days without federal intervention, it was when Gov. Angel Eladio Aguirre was finally removed from office, but, according to Riva Palacio, “it was too late. Everything had rotted.”
One of the first moves of the Mexican government, led by the Deputy Procurator for Human Rights, Eliana García Lagunes, would have been to invite experts to join the Mexican authorities' investigation.
The Argentine Forensic Anthropological Team arrived in Mexico, who would be responsible for giving legitimacy and credibility to the investigation led by Tomás Zerón, but it did not happen.
Once the “Historical Truth” was released, Karam closed the case once and for all, but both Argentines and the GIEI disqualified Mexican assertions for reasons that we already know today and that even border on torture to force statements.
In conclusion, Riva Palacio pointed out, there is one person who will be held accountable to history and, of course, to justice, and that is former PRI President Enrique Peña Nieto, “to whom a municipal crime became a state”, responsible for a government that “will never admit that its actions were provoked by incompetence and pride”.
The Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts documented four main findings that were presented at a press conference with local media.
The above are: Follow-up operations for active students on the day of disappearance. Video revealing SEMAR's manipulation of the crime scene. Falsification of documents and simulation of their delivery and that the authorities were aware of “United Warriors”.
