Great surprise caused the absence of Ramón Jesurún in the last match of the Colombian national team in the South American Qualifier against Venezuela. He was not present at the Cachamay stadium in the city of Puerto Ordaz as his itinerary marked the move to Qatar to be present in the World Cup draw, which will take place this Friday, April 1.
Well, this initially caused great controversy in the country, as the national team did not qualify for Qatar 2022, after finishing sixth with 23 points in the standings, this after having been in Brazil 2014, in Russia 2018 and having leading players worldwide such as David Ospina, Luis Díaz, Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao.
However, it became known that another reason for his trip to Asia was due to the FIFA Congress, where President Gianni Infantino gave a presentation on his management in the last year and served to set the stage for what will be a new World Cup. But the big reason for Ramón Jesurún's trip was to receive the new position on behalf of Conmebol as a new Member of the FIFA World Council.
This was reported by Dimayor's official profile through its Twitter account where it congratulated the one who was its president for eleven years (2005 to 2016), current president of the Colombian Football Federation and third vice president of Conmebol:
At the 75th Congress of Conmebol, apart from re-electing Paraguayan Alejandro Domínguez as president of the Confederation, two important decisions were made around Colombian representatives on the board of directors.
Brazilian Fernando Sarney was re-elected as representative to FIFA, a role in which he accompanies Domínguez, Colombian Ramón Jesurún, Ecuadorian María Sol Muñoz and Uruguayan Ignacio Alonso. In addition, Colombian Fernando Castillo will hold the chairmanship of the CONMEBOL Compliance and Audit Committee.
Although fans are aware that the seven games without scoring a goal had a negative impact on the aspirations of the 'tricolor' team, there are some people who have fallen responsibility on social networks and these were not necessarily the ones who lined up in the matches.
The first are Ramón Jesurún and Álvaro González Álzate, president and vice president of the Colombian Football Federation, respectively, and who were absent during the match against Venezuela, as they were boarding a plane bound for Qatar to be present in the draw for the world cup, despite the fact that the national team did not get the classification.
Journalists and social media users agreed on this pair of names as big people responsible for the elimination. Recalling cases such as the resale of ticket offices for which they were sanctioned by the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce as natural persons but the payment of these came from the FCF's accounts.
They were also the ones who chose to leave the Colombia team with Arturo Reyes as interim coach for approximately six months after the departure of Carlos Queiroz to later welcome Reinaldo Rueda. In addition, social media users say that leaders are more concerned with self-profit than with bringing development to national teams in their different categories.
