The Peruvian national team won their ticket to the repechage after beating Paraguay at home on the final day of the South American Qualifiers. This result allowed him to secure fifth place in the standings and play the playoff against the Asian representative. One of those responsible for this feat is Ricardo Gareca, who has recently been reported to be in Chile's sights for the next qualifying process.
This news was released by the portal ESPN Argentina, which through its Twitter account, placed that the 'Tigre' is one of the alternatives that the leaders of the Chilean Football Federation manage together with the Argentineans Ariel Holan and Sebastián Beccacece. And although for the moment, the current coach of 'La Roja', Uruguayan Martín Lasarte, is still in command, the fact that he does not qualifying for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, would make it come out sooner rather than later. In addition, there would be a clause in his contract that if he did not achieve the goal of going to the World Cup, his departure would take place.
But let's go and analyze the situation of each of the candidates and the options that the diver of the 'southern' picture would have to make.
RICARDO GARECA
The surprise is in the inclusion of the coach of the 'blanquirroja'. With a contract in force until the end of the Playoffs, this was extended until the playoffs, but if he qualified for the World Cup event, it would last until the end of it.
The 'Tigre mentioned in an interview for ESPN F360 in December 2021 that he felt very comfortable in Peru and that, at the time, he would have only changed to the 'bicolor' for the 'Albiceleste' .
And it is that his work with the national team has been more than remarkable. He played 4 Copas Américas and in all of them took the top eight places: 2015 (third place), 2016 (quarterfinals), 2019 (second place) and 2021 (fourth place). In addition, he managed to qualify for a World Cup in Peru after 36 years for Russia 2018. That and much more has won Gareca the hearts of both Peruvian fans, the players themselves and the press. Perhaps this affective bond would make it difficult for me to accept an offer from Chile, the classic rival of the 'bicolor', but in football anything is possible.
ARIEL HOLAN
Another candidate is Ariel Holan, current coach of Mexico's Leon, one of the teams that usually fight for the Liga MX title. Although this season things have not worked out quite well for him. With five dates to go before the end of the Clausura Tournament, the 'felino' cast ranks fifth with 18 points, 7 behind the leader Pachuca.
In the fortnight of this month there was talk of his departure, after Holan himself had presented his resignation for the routs against Tigres and Seattle Sounders (Concachampions), both for the same score against 3-0. But the directive opted for its continuity. His contract expires in June 2023, so if he does not win the title or improve the team's performance, he could leave and be an option for Chile. He has already directed the Catholic University (2020-2021), so he would not be a stranger to the environment.
SEBASTIAN BECCACECE
It is the alternative that would also be handled in the southern country. Although in this case, it would not be a stranger to the medium, since he worked as technical assistant to Jorge Sampaoli when he was coach of 'La Roja' for the Qualifiers heading to the World Cup in Brazil 2014, the championship they attended, but they were eliminated in the round of 16 by the locals. He also directed the University of Chile (2016). However, he has a contract until the end of the year with Defense and Justice of Argentina.
