After confirming their stay at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Mexican National Team has been the center of the conversation due to the level demonstrated throughout the qualifiers of the Octagonal Final. Although he acknowledged not knowing the present of the national team, contrary to the opinion of various critics and fans, Manchester City's Catalan strategist, Pep Guardiola, praised the level demonstrated by the Tricolor throughout history and supported the work of Gerardo Martino.

“The feeling I have about Mexico, I can't speak. I know you have a very good coach with Tata Martino. Mexico has always played football very well. What is missing? I don't know because I haven't seen him. I'm not there to judge what's missing, the coach is the first to know,” he said during an interview with TUDN.
