After the death of his wife, Slim decided to build a building that would serve as a museum in her honor, the majestic Soumaya Museum, located in the Polanco area. With his wife, Slim had six children: Carlos, Marco Antonio, Patricio, Soumaya, Vanesa and Johanna Slim Domit. All of them hold important positions in their father's companies, however, several national media outlets have listed Carlos Slim Domit, his eldest son, who is currently 55 years old, as their main heir.

It was precisely at one of the car racing events, a sport he is passionate about, where he met Maria Elena Torruco, the mother of his four children: Marielle, Emiliano, Carlos and Nicol; all of them minors, with whom they have been seen attending sporting and entertainment events.
It was at that motorsport event that the couple fell in love. At that time, the granddaughter of actress and singer María Elena Marqués Rangel, exponent of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema, was only 17 years old and Carlos Slim Jr. had already turned 33. According to various media specialized in celebrities, after some outings, both characters engaged in an intermittent courtship that lasted 10 years, since they have indicated that they experienced several breakups and reconciliations until they decided to marry.
Until 2010 Slim Domit asked to marry María Elena, who is also the daughter of the current head of the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Márquez. According to Quién magazine, the engagement took place in Acapulco, but Torruco didn't expect it because that day was Carlos' 43rd birthday party, so his family and friends would attend.
When it was time for the cake, María Elena got the big surprise, as the businessman gave an engagement ring with a special dedication and a few weeks later, the engagement was held at the bride's house, at whose dinner lobster and seafood were served.
Carlos Slim Domit and Maria Elena Torruco were married on October 9, 2010. The elegant ceremony was attended by various personalities from the business, political, cultural and entertainment sectors.
