The period series based on Julia Quinn's books premiered at the end of 2020 and soon became the most-watched Netflix original series on the platform thanks to the great impact it caused on viewers.
The period drama follows the Bridgertons, a respected upper-class English family made up of 8 brothers and their widowed mother during the Regency period in England. Unlike most series that focus on the same protagonists throughout their seasons, in Bridgerton each season focuses on a different brother. The first followed Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest of the sisters and her relationship with the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page).
While the second installment of the series, which premiered just last week, follows Anthony Bridgerton, the viscount and eldest son of the family and his relationship with Kate Sharma, the older sister of his fiancée, Edwina Sharma.
Although Simon and Daphne were the protagonists that the series revolved around in the first season, the duke does not appear at any point in the second season, while Daphne only makes a few brief appearances in some episodes. Despite that, fans of the series and the actor are hoping to see Simon again during the next season of the series even at times.
If you want to know if Simon Basset's character will appear in season 3 of Bridgerton, continue reading the following note.
DOES SIMON RETURN TO BRIDGERTON IN SEASON 3?
Last year Regé-Jean Page, the actor who plays Simon Basset told Variety that “his story arc is one season, with a beginning, middle and end”. He even used his Instagram account (@regejean) to thank the production crew, the cast, the fans and say goodbye to his character.
However, months later in an interview with British GQ the actor did not deny that he could play the charming Duke of Hastings again. “You know I couldn't tell you! Isn't there something wonderful about being surprised by what you didn't suspect?”
WHAT DO THE BOOKS SAY ABOUT SIMON'S APPARITIONS?
As you know, the series is based on the book saga by Julia Quinn, although Shonda Rhimes, producer of the series, has pointed out that they will not follow the exact order of the books, this could be an indication of what will happen and whether we will see Simon Basset on our screens again.
According to the second book, Simon only appears once during the Pall Mall game, but we already know that the series did not imitate the book in this case because we did not see the Duke of Hastings anywhere in the second season, he is only mentioned by referring to the fact that he is fulfilling his duties as duke.
Although he does not appear in the third book, in Quinn's fourth novel he does and even helps Colin solve the mystery of Lady Whistledown. If we take what Rhimes says that they will not follow the order of the books, one could speculate that this will happen in the next installment, especially because of how the song of Lady Whistledown looked at the end of the second season.
BRIDGERTON: WHEN WILL SEASON 3 BE RELEASED
Luckily for all fans of the vintage series, Shonda Rhimes, producer of the series, has confirmed that there will be a third and fourth season of the series. According to Rhimes, the third installment of the series based on Julia Quinn's books will start shooting in the first half of 2022 and will also consist of 8 episodes.
While there is still no confirmed release date for the third season of Bridgerton, it can be inferred from the pace of production and release that perhaps the 8 episodes of the next installment could be ready early next year.
SYNOPSIS OF SEASON 3 OF BRIDGERTON
Following Julia Quinn's books, the third season of Bridgerton will focus on Benedict, the family's second brother and his quest to find, first the mysterious woman of the mask dance organized by his mother, and then Sophie Beckett, the illegitimate daughter of the Earl of Penwood.
