President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) said he disagreed that the Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Loretta Ortiz, does not participate in the discussion of the Electrical Industry Law, which is being held in the senate.

This is after opposition senators PRI, PAN and PRD signed a letter requesting that the SCJN minister exempt herself from voting on the Unconstitutionality Action against the Electricity Reform due to a conflict of interest.

Officials alluded to Ortiz Ahlf's performance as federal deputy for the Labour Party (PT) -Morena's ally- in the LXII Legislature; in addition to her participation in the discussion and eventual approval of the constitutional energy reform endorsed by the government of Enrique Peña Nieto, as well as her participation in the discussion and eventual approval of the constitutional reform in energy matters endorsed by the government of Enrique Peña Nie and to cast its vote on the Electricity Industry Act.

This, they argued, could interfere with the independence, impartiality and objectivity of the Supreme Court of Justice, according to opposition senators.

López Obrador assured that these statements have no basis and are also inconsistent because they do not take into account the conflict of real interest that exists in the Chamber of Deputies with Margarita Zavala and Mariana Gómez del Campo, wife and niece respectively, of former President Felipe Calderón, who was advisor to the Spanish company Iberdrola.
