As with many footballers, Yoshimar Yotún found his position playing in the first division. He went from defending for the side as a left back to being responsible for having the ball in the middle of the field. 'Yoshi' told how that transition happened and gave the credits to Ricardo Gareca.
The Sporting Cristal footballer explained what Ricardo Gareca asks him for in the Peruvian national team. “From area to area. Just as I have air to go forward, I have to do it backwards. I feel pretty good, most matches I've done that. Sometimes they put more pressure on me, but we have Renato (Tapia) and Sergio (Peña) who also give us an outlet”.
Pedro Garcia, a panelist for Al Ángulo, recalled the first time that Yotún played steering wheel in the 'bicolor'. “I really don't know at what point that happened, but I do remember that the teacher (Ricardo Gareca) knew that I was coming, at that time I was in Malmo, to play left-back. The last tie had also done so in that position.”
“The teacher tells me that he had a vision how I played, if I could help him because at that time there were Vargas and Jair Céspedes, he assembled the teams in practice and the two sides were there. Then he told me 'you can help me there' and I said yes,” he added.
