On the morning of this Thursday, March 31, Dane revealed the results of the labor market for February 2022, noting that the unemployment rate for the second month of the year was 12.9%. Although in the midst of the pandemic many Colombians lost their jobs, the country and companies are in a process of recovery and return to normality, resuming some dynamics that existed before covid-19.

The gradual return to offices, after the remote work forced by the pandemic, has generated an advance in jobs and their salaries. Recently, the study of Show Me The Money, Salary Guide 2022, presented a balance of the changes that wages have undergone in the country.

The report highlighted that, in the midst of the pandemic, Colombia experienced a 10-year delay in employment; however, by 2022, “there are significant changes in wages and forms of work that are here to stay. One example is the hybrid and asynchronous work that has become the main axis of most required benefits,” explained Murilo Arruda, CEO and Founder of Show Me The Money.

However, the problem with unemployment, although it has been solved by economic reactivation, is not only related to the pandemic. The document details that the economy, since before covid-19, was already affected and in the face of the health crisis and the current recovery, companies would be making salary changes.

In addition, Show Me The Money anticipated that this year, which has the special feature of the presidential elections, the recovery of employment will continue with low momentum, and that companies have changed their salaries. “The job changes we see in the market are due to wage increases of between 10% and 15% well below the 30% they did before, without considering that companies have adjusted their wages downwards. Although there are no wage reductions in companies, when they make new hires they seek to obtain a significant reduction, between 15% and 20% compared to what was previously paid,” explained Alfonso Ochoa, Country Manager of DNA Human Capital.

The report detailed each salary for small, medium and large companies; and likewise, the work experience of each employee and the educational level achieved by the employees.
